Bob Mumgaard Provides the CFS Commercial Fusion Path & Timeframe to the NRC During His Presentation on Fusion Energy Regulation
Bob Mumgaard CEO of Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS), while reporting to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on the regulatory experience of building the new CFS "SPARC" net fusion energy & (HTS) superconducting magnet facility, provided his schedule for reaching the critical point of FUSION GAIN
Fusion gain or "Q" is when the energy put into the process is less than the energy gained. CFS is committed to reaching that inflection point in 2025, leading to ~400 Megawatts of power to the grid by the early 2030s.
Despite Conflict, Russia
Sends France Giant Magnet for Nuclear Fusion Project
Russia dispatched one of six giant magnets needed for the ITER nuclear fusion programme in France, one of the last international scientific projects Moscow participates in despite the Ukraine conflict.
The ship carrying the Russian-made magnet – or “poloidal field coil” – departed Saint Petersburg under grey skies.
On board, the massive nine-metre-wide coil, which weighs 200 tonnes had been tightly wrapped to withstand a two-week trip to Marseille, southern France.
The ring-shaped magnet built under Russian atomic agency Rosatom’s supervision will make up the top part of the world’s largest “tokamak”.

Governments worldwide are targeting massive decreases in carbon emissions by 2050.
With populations growing and increasing energy demand, intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind and solar are not enough to fully decarbonize the economy over the next decades and beyond.

Options for Clean, Safe & Abundant Scorses of Energy
As the world seeks to combat climate change, energy providers around the globe are upgrading their infrastructure to reduce carbon emission.
Countries with Net-zero Emission Goals
Adding intermittent sources such as solar & wind will only solve part of the problem.
POWER SHIFT
Renewable energy is growing faster than ever worldwide but capacity will still be insufficient to achieve global CO2 goals by 2050

Tokamak Energy moves closer to commercial fusion: 100M degree plasma a world record for a spherical tokamak
Tokamak Energy has demonstrated a world-first with its privately-funded ST40 spherical tokamak, achieving a plasma temperature of 100 million degrees Celsius, the threshold required for commercial fusion energy.
This is by far the highest temperature ever achieved in a spherical tokamak and by any privately funded tokamak (Brief Read Here)

South Korea’s Fusion Reactor Sustained Temperatures 7 Times Hotter Than the Sun
The 14-year-old tokamak experiment is a building block for ITER, which will one day be the largest fusion reactor in the world.
The Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research center (KSTAR) is an established tokamak that has been chipping away at its milestone goals since 2008. It’s also a key part of the developmental pipeline that is currently ramping up to the massive International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project, or ITER. So yes, every milestone is doubly important in the global push toward nuclear fusion energy.
UKAEA Announces:
West Burton Selected as
Home of STEP Fusion Plant.
Government-backed programme aims to prove low carbon electricity from fusion
The UK Government has confirmed the West Burton power station site in North Nottinghamshire will be home to the ground-breaking STEP prototype fusion energy plant.
The Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) plant will be designed and constructed to demonstrate the ability to put net electricity on the grid. It will also pave the way to enable future commercial fusion energy plants to be commissioned and constructed.

Fusion Energy Regulation
"Putting it in Writing"
By Tony Gerillo, EIC Fusion Energy News International
As the only news outlet in attendance at the Fusion Industry Association’s 1st annual policy meeting, it turns out to be a responsibility not to be taken lightly. Unpacking the day’s full agenda deserves a deep look into what the industry has achieved and what the next steps in regulation will be.
It is clear that fusion energy is inherently safe and that regulation will become a matter of getting the wording right so that society can move past the nomenclature of nuclear atomic energy having a negative impact on humans. Positive branding of fusion is difficult due to the negative history around nuclear fission, even though the only branding trait they share is in that “nuclear” appears in both names.
Where will fusion reactor regulations come from?
